The buffalo reserve in Kápolnapuszta between Zalakomár and Balatonmagyaród is the home of almost 80 buffalos. In the buffalo reserve the visitors can get to know the animals’ behaviour through the walk along the one and a half-kilometre long path with rest areas and look-out towers. The reserve plays a significant role in sustaining the indigenous buffalo stock and preserving its genetic material, and at the same time it is the popular centre of introducing the species to the public, since the tameness of the stock makes a direct contact possible with the visitors.
An exhibition demonstrating the wildlife of the Kis-Balaton region, a presentation about the buffalo history and walking paths have been created with playful elements, rest areas and look-out towers from where the visitors can explore the landscape through a telescope.
In the reception hall there is a possibility to buy publications, gifts and drink refreshments.
It used to be Lake Balaton’s bay with an open water surface, which became a marshy area throughout the time. From the last century most of the water was drained, then declared to be a natural reserve. Today this is the paradise for birds. Typical species here are the Great White Egret, Cormorant, Eurasian Spoonbill, Squacco Heron, Great Crested Grebe, Grey Heron, Purple Heron, Coot, Great Reed-Warbler, Warbler and White Owl. The inner areas covered with water are highly protected and can only be visited with a special permission. However, Kányavár Island is open to everyone to spend their leisure time in a cultural way. With the help of its two look-out towers we can admire the fascinating beauty of the landscape and get to know the flora and fauna of Kis-Balaton.
Those with a fishing licence have the possibility for fishing along the road joining Újszabar and Zalavár as well as in the direct vicinity of Kányavár Island.
Kis Balaton ház
A Kis-Balaton Ház , a Zalavár-Zalaszabar összekötő út mellett található. A zárt természetvédelmi területen lévő Kis-Balaton bemutatása kapott itt helyet. A központ építésével nemcsak a KBVR természeti értékeinek és vízminőségvédelmi szerepének bemutatása volt a cél, hanem a történeti és néprajzi vonatkozások szemléltetése, valamint kulturális központ létesítése is. A történetiséget már az épület elhelyezése is sugallja, hiszen a ház közelében lévő kápolna, a Cirill-Metód emlékoszlop, valamint a régészeti feltárások a közel- és régmúlt emlékeit hangsúlyozzák. A Kis-Balaton Ház - hasonlóan magához a Kis-Balatonhoz - "többfunkciós" létesítmény. A sokoldalúságnak az itt kialakított kiállításnál is meg kellett valósulnia.
Zobori Kalandzoo
Kis-Balaton nyugati partján, Zalaszabarban található - egyénileg, családosan, illetve csoportosan is látogatható - a kalandpark az aktív pihenést, öko-turizmust kedvelő fiatalok, családok, baráti társaságok, iskolák és cégek számára remek kikapcsolódási, szabadidő eltöltési lehetőséget kínál, nyugodt, idilli környezetben, a friss levegőn - a kaland és szórakozás jegyében.
The boating lake can be found 5 km from the town centre in the direction of Kaposvár on the left hand side of the road, which provides people with boating and fishing facilities.
There is a look-out tower 500 metres from the lake from where there is an amazing view of the surrounding area and Nagykanizsa.
Keszthely has a population of almost 24 000 people, and takes pride in its lively tourism in Zala County. The most populated town along the shore of Lake Balaton with its great traditions well deserves the title ’The capital of Balaton’. Thanks to its cosy atmosphere, monuments, museums, outstanding cultural events and the vicinity of Hévíz, it is now one the most freqented settlements at Lake Balaton.
